A Love Affair

Well hello a month a few weeks later.... Life has been so crazy here with my social agenda in full swing. There have been lots of parties, old friends visiting, and of course drinking. I had my annual Christmas party this past Saturday and had a great turn out. We parties hard and then went to Pinkie Masters for a dance party!

I have a new love in my life. Well its not really all that new, I've had netflix for a while now but I recently decided to start watching classic movies. Meet me in St Louis is one of my favorite movies of all time. I discovered netflix has a list of the AFI top 100 movies and I've decided to watch some. There is something desperately romantic about the innocence of classic courtships. I feel modern relationships lack the romance of the olden days because technology makes it too easy to just text someone instead of calling until they are home to answer.

I could easily go into details about how classic romance movies are so much better than the provocative sex scenes of todays films. Here are my top 5 favorite classics and modern movies. The modern films I chose reflect the way relationships actual go in todays world. I love to talk to my mom about how she met my dad and how he proposed. My grandfathers stories are even more romantic. In both instances, they met instantly fell in love and had short courtships which of course sound innocent (i'm sure they were). Then they were married and lived happily ever after. Things are too complicated in this millennium.

Classics
1. An Affair to Remember
2. His Girl Friday
3. Roman Holiday
4. To Have and have not
5. Doctor Zhivago

Modern
1. When Harry Met Sally
2. 500 days of summer
3. Sex and the City
4. No Reservations
5. 27 dresses

okay really just When Harry Met Sally. I had to complete the list though. I hope I'm not the only one who can appreciate these classics. Anybody else?

Savannah Film Fest= Awesomeness

I am fortunate to have an awesome life and get to experience awesome things. I consider myself Savannah College of Art and Design's (SCAD) resident socialite. Chances are if you have attended a SCAD function where there is a VIP section and/or open bar. You have seen me. One of my favorite past times is networking and being photographed for South Magazine. Its our uber hip publication to see the who's who and what they are doing.

For the better part of September and October I am prepping for the week long event of the Savannah Film Festival. I get to meet lots of celebrities, be social, party, and look great doing it for 7 days straight. Its exhausting, but I feel its my job to represent the college well. I put a lot of thought into my outfits and this year  I was fortunate enough to wear jewelry from shopSCAD almost every night. Below are some outfits for your viewing pleasure.

opening night with  my boys! Dress from Ann Taylor, Necklace is vintage pearls, shoes are pink suede from Rack room of all places!

My very handsome date and I before opening night. It was the night before halloween to we felt it fitting to wear masks. This is a close up of my dress and necklace

Tuesday night, shirt from Francescas. Jeans from Gap. I was wearing flats this night

All of my friends and some new friends at The Mansion on Forsyth. Earrings by Cuyler Hovey King,

BAZZdeGRANT necklace

These went with the outfit. They are Ivy Maddox Lambskin bracelets with Swarvoski crystals. SO FUN

The next night I rocked this awesome cuff by GoGo

SHOCKING NEWS!!!

I think I'm enjoying this time of year. And by this time I mean the dreaded month of November. Dont tell.

So my favorite season is spring because
1. Its my birthday
2. Everything is blooming and pretty
3. i like when it warms up and you have those first few picnic days in the park

We are in the midst of Film Festival this week here in Savannah. I have been hanging out with celebrities and going to some great films. I got to hang out with Ed Burns (he was George in 27 dresses). I still have 4 nights of film festival left and Zach Gilford will be my new friend Friday night, he is the quarterback on Friday Night Lights.

I realized last night when I got home from my after party that daylight savings starts this weekend. Now this doesnt make many people happy, it getting darker earlier. But the way I look at it, my night gets started earlier. I dont have to wait until 1030 to go out. I can go at 9 and wont be the only one at the bar.

There was also a chill in the gloomy air today. This only made me smile because I stopped by starbucks and discovered Peppermint Mochas are back! This is one of the top 10 things that makes me happy when I'm in a bad mood. Its right below Huey Lewis.

day 30!!! a motto or philosophy

My Senior quote was "While walking down the yellow brick road, dance with the scarecrow". This was my philosophy going into college. It worked. I had the time of my life and that scarecrow was an amazing dancer.

Day to day I live my life by this motto "A girl should be two things, Classy and Fabulous" Coco Chanel said that. I try everyday to be both of those things.

But my philosophy on life from here on out is this. "Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to slide in sideways, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, screaming HOLY SHIT what a ride"

Day 29: Hopes, Dreams, Plans for the next 365 days

Get out of debt. That is the first hope/dream/goal. After losing my job last April my finances have taken a hit. I want to get back to the lifestyle I loved and back in the designer shoes I was clacking around in.

I HOPE to settle down with a good man in the next year (fingers crossed).
I DREAM about getting back into my career path and burning that trail up.
My GOAL is to save up some money and wear a bikini next summer.

I feel like everyone's goal is to lose weight. I kinda like my curves as you have read before. I go to the gym and ride my bike to work to stay in shape. I'm in decent shape. I dont have a flat stomach or great arms. I dont really care either though. I think if I gave up eating out and drinking for a month I would lose 10 lbs but that doesnt sound like fun so my beer belly and I will keep on partying.

Day 28: a scar you have and its story

It is rare to get snow in South Carolina. It is even rarer to get a foot of it. In January of 2000 this phenomenon occurred. I was a junior in high school and this photo was taken the day of the big snow. Those were my 3 best friends: Katie, Lindsey, and Kelly. We spent the day playing in the snow with our best guy friends: Bo, Benjamin, Lex and Will. We built snow forts and had a snowball fight. Bo's mom made snow cream for all of us. I played so hard and had so much fun that day.

I woke up the next morning with a cramp in my side. Over the next few hours it got progressively worse. I called my mom as I was hunched over the toilet and said something just isnt right. She told me I played to hard and would get over it. I spent the next 2 hours vomiting and the pain got worse. She finally took me to the doctor. I was admitted to the hospital that night and after a day of tests and discovered I had an ovaric cyst that had grown too large and was cutting off the circulation to my ovary.

They went in laproscopically in an emergency surgery on a Thursday night. I woke up the next morning to find that I couldnt sit up and it hurt to talk, laugh, breath. They werent able to save my ovary and had to cut me in C Section form to get it out. So I have a 6" long scar at the base of my abdomen, too low to take a photo that I want to put on the internet. It all happened so fast that my friends didnt even know I was in the hospital.

I made it home a day later and couldnt sit up without assistance for a few days. It hurt so bad to laugh that I didnt even want anyone to come visit. The worst part about the whole thing (if you've had a C Section or this surgery you'll know what i mean) is that I had abs. I had this great flat 16 year old stomach that was cut open. I know have this permanent little pooch at the bottom that I'm very self conscious about. I talked to a plastic surgeon who said I will never lose the weight there. I would have to have liposuction periodically for the rest of my life. GRRR... oh well, thats my scar and my story.

Day 27: a physical feature you love

I'm going to admit, I am kind of ready for this blog challenge to be over. I've been working on some things for the holidays including a few wish lists and shopping lists that you will enjoy. With only 4 posts left in this set I was asked to write about a physical feature I love.

Now on myself I really love my eyes, and my nose, oh and my great boobs! I like my lips too, I think they are just pouty enough. Okay, I'm happy in my own skin. Here I am with my friend Jeannie showing my favorite features.
But lets get down and dirty. Lets talk about what feature I love on the opposite sex......No not that, we are keeping this PG 13. I have my own name for the sexiest part of the male body, not many men have them but my favorite male celebrities do. Find the common denominator...hint. its not their abs.

See that little indention on their sides where their pelvis starts? I call them Penis pointers and I love them. I know most people will be more discreet and say they love eyes, smiles, great arms, maybe even abs. I'm just being blunty honest, even if my mom is reading this (Hi Mom, I'm sure you agree with me on this one!) The Penis pointers lead the way.....as the feature I love the most!

Day 26: A childhood memory

Only 4 posts left until I have to actually put thought into my topics again. I was asked yesterday what my blog was about and it caught me off guard. its about ME silly. So today's topic is a childhood memory.

My childhood is filled with all sorts of happy memories. I grew up in a typical 80s neighborhood, it wasnt gated or fancy. We could ride our bikes until the sun went down and I remember playing ball in the front yard on a summer evening, daughters vs dads. It was lots of fun. I remember the moms standing on the sidelines with glasses of wine watching us all run to the bases made of oven mitts or dogwood trees.

I also loved to play dress up and had all kinds of fun with my Dad's hats, hats that I made and of course Princess crowns.

I also had a really bad haircut and looked like a boy most of my childhood. I remember being a child and having pool parties in the summer and my parents would grill out. I guess all of these memories can be summed up to say that I value family and its the times that I was with my family and friends together that are my most treasured memories. That and the fun hats.

Day 25: A Recipe and life update

If you actually read my blog I apologize profusely for disappearing for a month. Seriously I'm VERY VERY sorry. The goal of the 30 day challenge was to build up new readers and I didnt follow through. In the past month I have moved back to downtown Savannah with 2 new roommates. Moving downtown brought me closer to my much loved social life. I've had a Glee preview party every Tuesday night, happy hour every Wed night, $1 champagne night every Thursday night, and I have never blogged on the weekends. SO, that being said, I'm living it up right now and havent had time to blog. I promise I will be better.

Day 25 was supposed to be a recipe. So, here is my recipe for 3 cheese crostinis my new fav app.

1 baguette
fresh basil leaves
ricotta cheese
mozzarella cheese
Parmesan cheese

cut the baguette into small slices. drizzle olive oil on the slices and place one basil leaf on each to cover it. mix the cheeses together and spoon the mixture on top of the leaf. Broil in the oven until golden brown

Day 24: A movie no one would expect you to love

Netflix has decided that I like Witty Romantic Coming of Age Teen comedies. Thats pretty specific. I LOVE 80s movies, that is expected of me. I love raunchy comedies and romantic comedies. A few movies that I have in my collection that surprises people are.

Meet me In St Louis

PCU

Smoky and the Bandit

Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
(Maybe I Love Burt Reynolds)

Day 23: How I want to be remembered

When you think about yourself you only want to focus on the positive aspects of your personality. I have thought long and hard about this post, which is why it took me so long to actually sit down and write it. I feel like my personality is ever evolving and I dont want to think about being remembered right now. Back in junior high I was remembered as the girl who desperately wanted to be 'cool'. I talked too much and said stupid things but craved acceptance. The boys found me highly obnoxious because I didnt know how to lay low.

People from high school probably remember me as being very active. I was in many clubs and held offices in almost all of them. I was yearbook photographer and hosted the school television program (no one remembers me for that because no one watched it). I was even in my high school beauty pageant(that had to be rigged).

College helped me become my own person. I hope I am remembered for being a party queen. A Legend if you will. I hope that the stories of my crazy antics are still spread throughout that campus.

Now, as an adult. I want people to think of me as a caring and hospitable person. I want people to acknowledge the witty charm that I think I have. I want people to appreciate my photography and cooking skills. I strive to be someone that people always want to hang out with and be best friends with. I want my friends now to look back on this time in our lives and say, "I had this friend named Christie and she was SO MUCH FUN, man we had good times".

Surfer Boy

Its time for another iheartfaces weekly photo competition. This is a photo I took of my then beau on Hermosa Beach, CA. It was a great day because I flew out to Cali to drive back across country with him. This was the day of my arrival. I watched the sun rise on the east coast at the Savannah airport and set on this beautiful beach. I shot this with a nikon coolpix camera, nothing flashy or expensive. There has been no photoshopping or touching up in this photo. Just a great evening on the beach and beautiful scenery.

Day 22: A website

My favorite website to kill time and exercise my brain is www.Sporcle.com

This site is full of quizes. It will give you a category and sometimes clues and you have to fill in the blanks. Spelling counts. My favorite is name all of the presidents in a minute. Name all of the countries in the world. Try it, it will probably make you feel stupid but you can learn form the quizzes.

the sun never sets on being a badass

My good friend Stephanie is my photography mentor. Often times when I talk to professional photographers about my amateur photography they get mad because I have paid gigs. I dont understand this. Stephanie has supported me from day 1 and is always there to offer advice. She isnt competitive with me, she is a lot better than me which is probably why! She enters these photo contests and I want to be more serious about my passion so I am entering the Iheartfaces week 33 photo contest. I've never done this before and hope I do it right. This weeks contest is sunglasses. I chose a photo from a fashion shoot I did for Custard Boutique. This is my friend Ana walking some strangers dog in the park. here is my entry

check out iheartfaces if you want to see my competition

Day 21: Something you know you do differently than most people

I know other people that do this but not MOST people. My nephew does it too. I like to think he gets it from me. When I eat meals I eat one thing at a time on my plate. I dont like for my food to touch. Even more importantly I eat in a clockwise order if I'm eating off a plate. Weird I know but at least I can say it runs in the family!

Day 20: A Hobby of yours

We all know I love photography and karaoke. We know I also love boys and meeting new people. Jeannie used cooking as her talent and I'm going to use it as my hobby. This past weekend we had a going away party for my roommate, Katie. I decided to make my go to dish of Mexican Queso. Its 2 packages of cream cheese, 1 tube of Jimmy Dean spicy sausage (cooked for you blondes that might not assume that), and one can of rotel (drained). put it all in a crock pot and let it get hot and melty. Its great

My real hobby and talent comes in the form of Italian food. I'm going to give you 2 recipes that are my go to dishes to impress people.

Parmesan Risotto- This dish is great because it is diverse. You can add meat to it or vegetables. It can be used as a side of a main dish. Here is the base....
1 cup arborio rice (this is important, make sure to get the right kind)
onion (to taste)
Parmesan Cheese
olive oil
White wine (cheap stuff)
Chicken broth

ok, In a skillet sauté some chopped onions in a little olive oil. add the cup of rice and toast the rice for about 2 minutes
pour in just enough white wine to touch every piece of rice. As the wine is absorbed add more(about 1 cup total)
when all of the wine has been absorbed do the same thing with the chicken broth. This may take a few cups. Keep adding as the liquid is soaked up until the rice is creamy and not crunchy.
Add in a handful of Parmesan cheese and any other toppings you want.
Total time: about 20 min

Farfalle in homeade cream sauce: This is designed to feed a crowd and can also be altered with different ingredients. My favorite is shrimp, peas, mushrooms, and bacon.

Whipping Cream
Oregano
Salt
garlic clove

In a skillet sauté 1 garlic clove with a little olive oil.
add a small container of whipping cream, a pinch of salt, and a tsp of oregano....bring to a simmer
turn skillet off when sauce starts to simmer.
Boil water for farfalle.
by the time the farfalle pasta is cooked the sauce should be thick and can be added to the pasta. Top with your ingredients

If you try these out let me know what you think!!!
