Fall Style

Every October marks the Savannah Film Festival. Every October I buy a week's worth of clothes to last me all fall but I premiere them at the nightly events. This year I'm having a dress custom made by my good friend Ashley who just finished her fashion MFA at the Savannah College of Art and Design . I will share pictures of that when the festival is over.

So this year we are kicking things off on my favorite holiday, Halloween. Unfortunately I will not be dressing up which makes me sad. But I get to wear a fabulous dress instead. I wanted to share my look book for the week's events.

Mine isnt identical but very similar. Has metallic threading and pockets.

Even though my eyes are brown I think this will be a good look

My date is 6'5" I'm 5'6". these should help fill that gap

The Conspirator

I have a HUGE crush on James MacAvoy. I loved him in Atonement and wanted him bad in Wanted. I just wanted to update you all as to what I have been up to. He is currently filming a movie here in Savannah. It is directed by Robert Redford and also stars Robin Wright Penn (Princess Buttercup) and Justin Long.

Today I went down to where they were filming and tried to get a glimpse of his hotness. In his beard and civil war garb he was there, 10 feet away from me. I have befriended one of the directors asst and will keep you all abreast on the latest news of my encounters with his hotness. Too bad he is married. He is Scottish, my heritage is Scottish maybe his wife isnt here ;)

Oh the Good Times...I think?

I have a terrible memory. Everyone who knows me knows this about me. I decided that if I found a genie in a bottle I would ask for a better memory but I probably wouldnt be able to remember that when the time comes.

This weekend I have been hanging out with some old college friends. My best friend, Greg, and I went to the Kings of Leon concert in Atlanta and then to a friends wedding where we met up with my other best friends Jeannie and Cory. We spent all day reminiscing with some friends we havent seen in a while. It was fun but I realized that I dont remember lots of great times. I started going back through facebook and realized that my life would be a lot less complete with memories if I didnt have Facebook to remind me what I was doing in the Spring of 2005.

We discussed classes and I cant remember who I took for what (with the exception of a few). I dont remember details from parties and the parties seem to blur together. I think I partied too hard and now I'm paying the price. I cant remember some of my best nights. Thank God for my social network to remind me of some fun nights. I would like to share a few photos and tell stories so that I can forever seal them in the internet universe.

I was a ZTA and our favorite boys were the Kappa Sigmas. This photo is from a white trash bash we had while I was social chair. I proved myself for 2 years before getting the social chair position. This was the best mixer we ever had.

Since Jeannie is sitting beside me as I write this blog she wanted all of the memories to about her (we'll see).We had a mixer called "I'm glad I'm not..." and I went as my best friend and roommate Jeannie Burnside. I even wore her belt. She stayed at home and I had to explain that I was not dressed as an ADPi but as Jeannie

Kappa Sigma Formal 2004. Molly (in the fur) got a spray tan that day (bad idea). Elizabeth (in the pink) was fighting with her boyfriend and ended up not making it to formal because she stayed at the house to take care of my date, Rich (in the blue) who threw up so much that he burst all the blood vessels in his eye. I went to the Kappa Sigma formal without a Kappa Sig.

Wow, this will be the last photo for this post because it is getting ridiculous. My friend Greg had a dream that he and Elizabeth (in the white hat) had a baby named Beatrix. But the baby was actually a penguin. We were told this story over copious amounts of Sake at Miabi and decided it would be a good idea for them to get married. We decided to go bowling and the girls detoured to Target and planned a bowling alley wedding. Above is the photo of the wedding party and Beatrix after the nuptials. Did I mention there was lots of sake?

Tucker Blair

I was recently granted the honor of guest blogging for Tucker Blair. Unless you've been living in a hole in the preppy blogging sphere then you know that TB is the new staple of preppy accessories. I thought long and hard about what I would have to say to interest his readers. I was a journalism major briefly in college so I feel like I was more writing an article. I chose to compare Southern Preps to Northern Preps. To read more you'll have to go HERE.

Dog collars

Jackson needs a new collar. I bought his on ebay 2 years ago and even after a wash it looks dinghy (sp?). My niece showed me a great website of dog collars called MyMascot.com I'm mad because the collar I wanted 2 of my friends have already bought.

I'm holding out for Tucker Blair to come out with the dog collars in SC print. Does anyone have any other great websites to check out?

Hugo's a bad man

I was 6 years old when Hurricane Hugo ripped through my small hometown of Hartsville, SC. I knew something bad was happening a few days before it made landfall on September 21, 1989. My aunt and uncle from Charleston showed up with their kids and dogs to stay at our house for a few days. They usually stayed with my grandparents when they came to town but this trip they had brought 3 dogs and my grandma didnt allow dogs in her house.

I thought it was fun when mom took me to the store a few days before the storm and we bought sweet sixteen donuts. We bought gallons of water and bread and little debbies. I thought we were having a party.

The storm made landfall at night but during the day I helped my dad board up windows at his office. I handed him nails and a hammer. I still wasnt sure what was going on. It was a peaceful and beautiful day. I remember how calm it was (eerily calm as I now know it to be).

My parents put me in their bed the night of September 21st. They said there was going to be a storm and we were going to all sleep in their room. My brother was going to sleep on the couch in their room and my aunt, uncle and cousins were in the living room on air mattresses and sofas.

I fell asleep pretty quickly in my daddy's arms and woke up to the sound of a freight train around 3am. My mom and brother were standing on the sofa looking out the window into our front yard. I heard my mom yell for my brother to "get down". There was a tornado ripping through our yard. I remember hearing lots of loud bangs it was tree limbs falling and tranformers blowing. It was the sound of lightning striking and rain pouring down. The sound of glass breaking and limbs falling on houses and cars.

The next morning I was the last one in the house to get up. I walked to the kitchen and noticed no one was there. I walked outside in my footed pajamas and saw my entire family in the backyard. They were drinking coffee, talking to the neighbors, and assessing damage.

A tree had fallen on my playhouse, a pine tree had crushed our brick fence and landed in our pool. 3 houses on our street had trees through them middle of their houses. There was trash and debris all over the yard and street. It was a mess. I distinctly remember walking to my playhouse and touching the big tree. When I pulled my hand away it was sticky with sap.

Clean up took days and we were without water and electricity for about a week. The storm went right through my town and wreaked hvaoc on the way. My aunt and uncle went back to Charleston to find a bigger mess. When we got back to school a week later we had to write down our feelings and memories and they were compiled in a book about the storm. I wrote "Hugo's a bad man, he put a tree on my playhouse".

Twenty years later I still remember how bad of a man Hugo was.
